Two New Road Projects to Improve Connectivity in Northern Singapore
To support upcoming and future developments in the northern part of Singapore, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will embark on two new road projects to improve overall road connectivity and capacity in this area.
Expansion of CTE/TPE/SLE Interchange
2. To improve connectivity between Yishun Town, the new Seletar Aerospace Park (SAP) and the expressway network, LTA will expand the existing interchange that connects Central Expressway (CTE), Tampines Expressway (TPE) and Seletar Expressway (SLE).
3. As part of this expansion project, four new vehicular flyovers will be constructed. In addition, five new road connections will also be created to improve the connectivity between the expressway and the road network:-
(i) From Seletar West Link to CTE;
(ii) From CTE to Seletar West Link;
(iii) From Seletar West Link to Yio Chu Kang Road;
(iv) From Yio Chu Kang Road to Seletar West Link; and
(v) From TPE (Westbound) to Seletar West Link
4. The CTE/SLE/TPE Interchange expansion project has been awarded to Or Kim Peow Contractors (Private) Limited at a contract value of $75 million.
New Road between TPE and Yishun Avenue 6
5. Besides expanding the interchange, LTA will also construct a new road link between TPE and Yishun Avenue 6. As part of this new road link, LTA will construct a new dual 2-lane road between Yishun Avenue 6 and Yishun Avenue 1, remark a stretch of Yishun Avenue 1 from dual 1-lane to dual two lanes and widen the existing Seletar West Link from dual 1-lane to dual 3-lanes.
6. When the two new road projects are completed, motorists can look forward to better connectivity and faster travelling time between the three connecting expressways, Yishun Town and SAP. For example, motorists travelling from Yishun Town to CTE can expect a time savings of up to 10 mins. The completion of the new road link will also improve traffic conditions along Lentor Avenue and Yishun Avenue 2.
7. Tenders for the new road link between TPE and Yishun Avenue 6 will be called shortly. Construction is expected to start in the third quarter of 2012. Both projects are targeted for completion by 2015.
8. Please refer to Annex A for more details of the two road projects.
